BNA applies sanctions of one billion kwanzas to national financial institutions

The National Bank of Angola (BNA) announced the application of sanctions worth one billion kwanzas to banking and non-banking financial institutions, in the last quarter of 2023.

:

Failure to comply with standards relating to the protection of consumers of financial products and services led the infractions in this period, according to the summary of the BNA's sanctioning action for the months of October, November and December to which Lusa had access.

The central bank said that of the 34 sanctioning processes concluded, 20 correspond to summary processes and 14 to misdemeanor processes, with 24 referring to banking financial institutions and the rest to non-banking institutions.

At the level of banking financial institutions, non-compliance with standards relating to the protection of consumers of financial products and services was more common, with 16 incidents, as highlighted in the document prepared by the BNA Financial System Regulation and Organization department.

Failure to comply with the rules on combating and preventing money laundering and terrorist financing, the rules on charging commissions and the rules on special registration with the supervisory body were other infractions in prudential matters.

In relation to banking financial institutions, these totaled five infractions in prudential matters, with failures to comply with the duty to report exchange rate transactions carried out, the duty to report balance sheets, the rules on credit granted and others, and another five infractions in behavioral matters.
