According to Carolina Cerqueira, the centrality of the parliament in the Angolan political system is one of the priorities of the current mandate, which demands from deputies, officials and parliamentary agents enormous responsibility in the relationship with citizens and institutions.

Cerqueira also expressed the conviction that citizens expect from their parliament "greater openness, more transparency and ability to scrutinize".

A parliament "more available, a parliament that is more present, a house of democracy that is the home of all Angolans", she stressed.

This Friday, parliament unanimously approved the definitive composition of the National Assembly board, including two deputies from the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), as 2nd and 4th vice-presidents and two others as 2nd and 4th table secretaries.

For the president of the legislative body, who was speaking at the end of the third ordinary plenary meeting of the first legislative session of the V legislature, dialogue, tolerance and a sense of state "must be values that must guide parliamentary life".

She pointed out that "this is the only way to build a democratically denser society" and feels "fully represented" by the sovereign body that is the National Assembly.

"It is our common desire that Angola be and continue to be a beacon of democratic reference for Africa and the world. Democracy is built with votes, tolerance and dialogue", she said.

Carolina Cerqueira also exhorted the deputies to defend the mandate, whose legislature extends until 2027, "so that this house of laws is a strong institution capable of carrying out its tasks".

"And build a future in accordance with the confidence and power that the people conferred on us with our election", concluded the president of the legislative body.

The next plenary meeting of the National Assembly is scheduled for 13 February.
