According to a note published on the official page of the Presidency on Facebook, the two statesmen spoke about the implementation of what was agreed in Brasilia, in a meeting between the respective heads of diplomacy, including the holding of the Joint Angola-Brazil Commission and reiterated the commitment to develop further the economic relations between the two countries.
In the telephone conversation they held, the Angolan and Brazilian heads of state also addressed regional issues, in the context of which Lula da Silva "reaffirmed Brazil's commitment to contribute to the economic development of the African continent".
Lula da Silva had planned to start the first day of his government – Monday – with a series of 17 bilateral meetings with some of the heads of state who witnessed the investiture, but seven ended up being cancelled, including that of João Lourenço, who returned on Tuesday to Angola.
On the other hand, the government of Lula da Silva promoted on Monday a meeting of the heads of diplomacy of the two countries in Brasilia, after the meeting between the two presidents was cancelled.
"At the meeting, the two foreign ministers exchanged views regarding the Strategic Partnership, signed by Brazil and Angola in 2010, and expressed their intention to hold, this semester, the seventh edition of the Brazil-Angola Joint Commission", reads the statement. Itamaraty, one day after the inauguration of Mauro Vieira as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil and two days after the inauguration of Lula da Silva.
In a publication released on his Twitter account, Lula da Silva lamented the lack of time for "so many good conversations" with representatives from Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America. "We will have other opportunities. The world missed Brazil", concluded the Brazilian President.
