For João Lourenço, who was speaking at the Presidential Palace, during the inauguration ceremony of the new military leaders, he stressed that "it is in a period of peace" that one must "seek to develop and strengthen" in the "armed forces".
"Hence the need, whenever necessary, whenever the situation requires, promotion processes in careers and movement of leadership and military commands", he said.
"It is often said that it is in peace where there are better conditions for any State to better prepare and prevent itself for any eventuality, which, preferably, should not happen", he stressed.
But, sometimes, the President maintained: "Not everything depends on us what can happen. Therefore, it is in peace that we must seek to develop and strengthen our armed forces".
João Lourenço appointed, last week, several officers to the military leadership, namely a new Chief of Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (CEMFAA) and his deputy, new commanders of the Army and the National Air Force and other officials of the Casa Militar and the Presidential Security Unit.
To the newly appointed, who took office this Tuesday, for having "an enviable record of service", the President asked for dedication, believing that the country's defense and security "are in good hands".
General Altino Carlos José dos Santos is the new CEMFAA and his deputy is Lieutenant General Artur Santos Vinama.
General João Serafim Kiteculo is the new commander of the Army, General Virgínio António da Cunha Pinto was sworn in to head the National Air Force. General Gouveia de Sá Miranda is the Inspector General of National Defense and General Sequeira João Lourenço was appointed deputy head of the Military House of the President of the Republic.
Several other officials from different branches of the Angolan Armed Forces were also sworn in.
