"Today [Monday], International Education Day, Angola formally joined the Global Partnership for Education Financing Initiative and the creation of the Local Education Group", reads in a note made available on Facebook from the Ministry of Education.
The tutelage explains that with this accession, Angola becomes part of the range of 76 countries, "and can, from now on, access the funding fund for improving the education system, budgeted at around US$78.7 million".
According to Luísa Grilo, Minister of Education, the country was officially invited last year by the direction of the Global Partnership for Education to join this funding system, being eligible for three types of funding: multiplier (US$50 million ), system capacity ($3.7 million) and girls' education accelerator ($25 million).
Speaking at the ceremony, the head of the Education portfolio admitted that the creation of the Local Group of Partners - composed of the Ministry of Education, Finance, Foreign Affairs, Multilateral Cooperation Agencies (UNESCO, UNICEF, World Bank, African Development Bank ) and Angolan civil society organizations (Rede de Associações Educação para Todos) - represents a decisive milestone for Angola to join the initiative, as it will help to increase access to pre-school and primary education as well as improve learning outcomes.
In addition, the initiative also supposes a stimulus to the education of girls, promoting gender equality and ensuring a more inclusive education system, writes Jornal de Angola.
