INAC recorded more than 7000 cases of violence against children in 2021

The Instituto Nacional da Criança (INAC) recorded more than 7,000 cases of violence against minors in 2021, of which 1,000 were related to sexual assaults, the head of the institution said.

:

According to the director-general of Inac, Paulo Kalesi, cases have increased compared to 2020, the year in which 5,000 cases of violence against children were reported.

Paulo Kalesi said that of the more than 7000 cases, 3000 have to do with the escape from paternity, followed by physical and psychological violence, child labor and sexual abuse.

The director-general of Inac stressed that the province of Luanda, capital of the country, leads the list of cases, followed by Benguela, being in the families where the abuses happen.
"Luanda is no exception to the rule, due to the number of inhabitants it has. Families that should be the safest place, where children would breathe relief, is the most unsafe place for children. Cases of physical, psychological, abuse sexual intercourse takes place within the family, so we have to focus our action on the families", said Paulo Kalesi, speaking to public radio.

According to Paulo Kalesi, there is a concern with the length of the processes, highlighting those of sexual abuse.

"We have cases in which the child was abused, the aggressor is detained, but after a while this aggressor is released and passes through the neighborhood, he threatens the family, he shows that he has already left and nothing has happened and we have families that they were forced to move house because the aggressor is there. Moving house because of insecurity and because the child is faced with the aggressor", he stressed.
