Applications for the National Human Rights Prize have already opened

Applications for the National Human Rights Award have already opened. Interested parties have until January 31st to submit their applications.

The Government, in a note posted on its Facebook, refers that this award aims to "publicly recognize the entities and personalities that have stood out in the promotion, defense and protection of Human Rights" in the country.

According to the statement, natural or legal persons can compete for the prize. For this, they will have to submit an "application file and filling out the form published at the addresses: https://premios.minjusdh.gov.ao and premios@minjusdh.gov.ao".

The award, according to the statement, includes four categories: Person of the Year in Human Rights, Human Rights Research, Community and Humanitarian Actions and Culture of Peace and Citizenship.

The Government explains that the first category (Personality of the Year in Human Rights) covers "actions, conduct or activities of natural persons that deserve special attention in terms of the promotion, protection and defense of Human Rights and Citizenship in Angola".

The category of 'Research in Human Rights' includes scientific studies, documentaries, among other actions "documented in any information and communication support, at national level, which deserve special attention in terms of deepening the reflection on Human Rights and Citizenship" .

In turn, the category of 'Community and Humanitarian Actions' refers to "actions, behaviors or activities with the most vulnerable local communities and that deserve special attention for their impact on improving the quality of community life, in the field of Human Rights and Citizenship".

Finally, the category of 'Culture of Peace and Citizenship' comprises the actions, conduct or activities of "natural or legal persons, of private or public law, who make a recognized contribution in the fight against crime and violence, and in the promotion of the culture of peace in Angolan society".

The jury will be chaired by Francisco Queiroz, Minister of Justice and Human Rights, and will have as vice-president the Reverend Daniel Ntoni Nzinga. "Eduardo Peres Alberto, as academic elected by the Union of Higher Education Teachers; Afonso José, as Social Communication professional elected by the Angolan Journalists Union, and Celdo Mateus Sovala, representative of the local Human Rights committees, will also be part of the jury".
