According to the official, export earnings have increased significantly in recent years: in 2017, revenues were 10.7 million dollars, having risen to 23.5 million dollars last year.

Cited by Angop, Jânio Correia Victor explained that this increase results from the increase in the production of ornamental stones. In 2017, production was 47,000 cubic meters and is currently set at 70,000 cubic meters.

The official, who was speaking at the briefing of the Ministry of Economy and Planning, said that granite and marble make up most of the production.

Regarding the markets to which Angola exports these rocks, the Secretary of State for Mineral Resources indicated that China occupies the largest share with 51 percent. Also noteworthy are the markets of Spain, with 30 percent, Italy, with seven percent, Poland, with five percent, Portugal, with three percent and Vietnam, with one percent.

He also stated that in addition to the increase in revenues, there was also a growth in the workforce: the sector went from 796 workers in 2017 to 941 in 2021, who are gathered in 22 companies in the sector, located in the provinces of Huíla, Namibe, Zaire, Kwanza Norte, Benguela, Huambo and Kwanza Sul.

Dalva Ringote, Secretary of State for the Economy, considered that although the contribution of this sector to the national economy is not very important, it is under development, leveraged by the incentives given by the Government to companies operating in this area.

"The growth in production is notorious, although it is still timid, and through the Program for Supporting Production, Diversification of Exports and Substitution of Imports, businessmen in the sector will be able to benefit from the mechanisms of support and promotion of national production", she said. .

The province of Huíla stands out in this sector, assuming the role of main producer of ornamental stones in the country, with an average production of around 70 thousand cubic meters per year.
