The Municipal Hospital of Viana, in Luanda, is working with just two doctors, as the majority of professionals tested positive for covid-19, and the pediatric section of the health unit “collapsed” due to the requests, it was announced.

The information was advanced by the director-general of the hospital unit, Mateus Neto, referring that professionals with symptoms, including doctors and nurses, are isolated at home and undergoing treatment.

"Since the Christmas season, from December 24th, we have been working in this unit with only two doctors, because the others are infected with covid-19", the person in charge said today in statements to the radio.

According to Mateus Neto, as a result of the absence of technicians, pediatrics at the also known hospital in Kapalanga collapsed: "Because we have many children and we don't even have beds or the means to cope with the number of patients arriving."

The official also lamented the lack of drugs in that hospital, and some patients, he explained, "have even to acquire one or another drug".

The new variant of Ómicron, which is already circulating in Angola, has also affected several health professionals in various hospitals across the country, as reported by the authorities.
