According to the head of the communication and press department of the Bié provincial command of the National Police, chief superintendent António Hossi, the victims were carrying out mining activities in the town of Caxito, communal seat of Caieie, municipality of Nharea.

"There were eight members of that group and the death of these citizens occurred when they were carrying out excavations for the exploration of diamonds and, given the depth of the hole, the earth collapsed and they were buried", said António Hossi, speaking to the radio.

The spokesman for the police in Bié, in central Angola, stressed that the citizens carried out the exploitation "illicitly".
