Government satisfied with last quarter 2020 rate

The Government considered this Wednesday that the data for the fourth quarter of 2020 on employment in the country, whose unemployment rate fell by 3.7 percent, "are very encouraging, but do not comfort and constitute a great challenge".

:

"Fortunately the data for this last quarter is much more encouraging, it gives us some encouragement, because we are gradually reversing the pyramid, it is true that the challenge is still very great, it is true that no government feels comfortable when we have citizens assets outside the job market, "said Secretary of State Pedro Filipe.

According to the Secretary of State for Labor and Social Security, who responded to Lusa at the end of the ceremony to launch the Professional Internship Program, the Government "is not comfortable" with the picture of employability in the country, "although the signs are beginning to show that the process is moving in the right direction ".

The unemployment rate in the fourth quarter of 2020 in Angola fell 3.7 percent compared to the same period in 2019, estimated at about 30.6 percent and about 4.7 million unemployed in the country, announced the authorities on Tuesday.

In a press conference, the director-general of the National Statistics Institute (INE) informed that the survey revealed that the unemployment rate, in the last three months of 2020, "was estimated at 30.6 percent, lower than 8 , 9 percentage points over the previous quarter and 3.7 percentage points over the same quarter. "

Chaney Jonh also noted that the unemployment rate for the population aged 15 or over decreased by 3.4 percentage points and the group with the highest unemployment rate was between 15 and 24 years old.

Regarding the employment rate, in the fourth quarter of 2020, it "increased by 3.1 percent over the previous quarter by 8.3 percent, which corresponds to 824,813 people, compared to the same quarter of 2019" .

This Wednesday, commenting on the data released by INE, Pedro Filipe pointed out that the numbers "are more encouraging, but still constitute a great challenge" and that the executive will continue to do his "part to reverse this process".

For the Secretary of State, the job market "is not dissociated with the performance of the economy", therefore, Angola "will only have the situation of employability resolved when the performance of the economy is considerably better".

"Hence, a series of documents have been approved for the improvement of the business environment and the promotion of national production, and this will be reflected directly in the employability data", he concluded.
