Covid-19: Africa with 1056 more dead and 20,930 infected in the last 24 hours

Africa recorded an additional 1056 covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours for a total of 88,993 deaths, and 20,930 new cases of infection, according to the latest official pandemic data on the continent.

According to the African Union's Disease Control and Prevention Center (Africa CDC), the total number of infected people is 3,515,047 and the number of recovered people in the organization's 55 member states in the last 24 hours was 13,555, for one total of 2,990,890 since the start of the pandemic.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,676,885 infected and 47,573 dead. South Africa alone, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, has 1,447,798 cases and 43,105 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,077,651 infected and 29,043 fatalities.

East Africa accounts for 357,634 infections and 6801 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 315,927 and that of deaths is 3978. In Central Africa, 86,950 cases and 1598 deaths are recorded.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, registers 9169 deaths and 164,282 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8224 fatalities and 469,139 cases.

Among the six most affected countries are also Tunisia, with 6508 deaths and 204,351 infected, Algeria, with 2883 deaths and 106,508 cases, Ethiopia, with 2085 fatalities and 135,594 infections, and Kenya, with 1753 deaths and 100,422 infected.

Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola has 464 deaths and 19,672 cases of infection, followed by Mozambique (347 deaths and 35,833 cases), Cape Verde (131 deaths and 13,784 cases), Equatorial Guinea (86 deaths and 5492 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (45 deaths and 2600 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (17 deaths and 1221 cases of infection).
