Covid-19: Africa with 1030 more deaths and 28,067 infected in the last 24 hours

Africa recorded an additional 1030 covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours for a total of 82,891, and 28,067 new cases of infection, according to the latest official pandemic data on the continent.

According to the African Union's Disease Control and Prevention Center (Africa CDC), the number of infected people is 3,365,095 and that of those recovered in the organization's 55 member states in the last 24 hours was 37,622, for a total 2,784,501 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,591,259 infected and 43,111 dead. South Africa alone, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, has 1,380,807 cases and 39,501 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,047,100 infected and 27,849 fatalities. East Africa accounts for 348,829 infections and 6600 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 294,737 and that of deaths is 3770. In Central Africa, 83,170 cases and 1561 deaths are recorded.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 8801 deaths and 159,715 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8076 fatalities and 463,706 infected.

Among the six most affected countries are also Tunisia, with 5989 dead and 190,884 infected, Algeria, with 2853 deaths and 104,749 cases, Ethiopia, with 2057 fatalities and 132,326 infections, and Kenya, with 1739 deaths and 99,630 infected.

Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola recorded 448 deaths and 19,177 cases of infection, followed by Mozambique (283 deaths and 30,225 cases), Cape Verde (122 deaths and 13,307 cases), Equatorial Guinea (86 deaths and 5365 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (45 dead and 2517 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (17 killed and 1171 cases of infection).
