Covid-19: Africa exceeds 70,000 dead

This Friday, Africa surpassed 70 thousand deaths due to the covid-19, having registered in the last 24 hours more 690 deaths and 35,441 new cases, according to the most recent data of the pandemic in the continent.

According to the African Union's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the total death toll has risen to 70,553 and that of cases is 2,950,109.

The number of recovered in the last 24 hours was 18,930, for a total of 2,414,219.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,316,964 infected and 34,102 deaths.

In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by covid-19 on the continent, accounts for a total of 1,170,590 infections and 31,809 dead, accounting for more than half of the deaths and cases recorded across Africa in the past 24 hours.

North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 967,886 cases of infection and 25,458 fatalities.

East Africa has 330,477 infections and 6113 deaths, in West Africa the number of infections is 257,805 and that of deaths is 3375, while Central Africa has 76,977 cases and 1505 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, registers 8029 deaths and 146,809 infected, followed by Morocco, with 7645 fatalities and 448,678 infected.

Among the six most affected countries are also Tunisia, with 5052 deaths and 152,254 infected, Algeria, with 2792 deaths and 101,382 cases, Ethiopia, with 1966 fatalities and 127,227 infections, and Kenya, with 1702 deaths and 97,773 infected.

Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola registers 413 deaths and 17,974 cases, followed by Mozambique (176 deaths and 19,961 cases), Cape Verde (113 deaths and 12,146 cases), Equatorial Guinea (86 deaths and 5289 cases), Guinea -Bissau (45 dead and 2455 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (17 killed and 1035 cases).
