Country with 108 more infections and three deaths by covid-19

The country registered 108 new cases of covid-19 and three more deaths, increasing to 17,864 positive cases and 413 deaths, informed this Wednesday the Secretary of State for Public Health.

Franco Mufinda said the new cases were registered in the provinces of Luanda (40), Huambo (35), Zaire (18), Bié (6), Cabinda (3), Benguela (2), Huíla (2), Malanje (1) and Kwanza Norte (1), 72 males and 36 females, with ages ranging from 2 to 69 years.

"Unfortunately, we have registered three deaths in the last 24 hours in the provinces of Benguela, Huambo, and Luanda, with one Chinese and two Angolans, all 25, 49, and 77 years old," said the ruler.

However, 62 patients were considered recovered in the last 24 hours in Luanda, 12 in Zaire, 11 in Benguela, nine in Kwanza Sul and seven in Huambo, aged between 6 months and 77 years, thus totaling 11,477 recoveries.

For now the country has 5974 active cases, three of which are in critical condition, eight severe, 72 moderate, 92 mild, and 5799 asymptomatic, with 175 patients in the treatment centers.

In terms of laboratory analysis, 1738 samples were processed in the last 24 hours, 108 of which were positive, giving a daily positivity rate of 6.2 percent, while the cumulative figure points to a total of 316,985 samples processed to date, 17,864 of which were positive, indicating a cumulative positivity rate of 5.6 percent.

The Secretary of State said that 1306 people were tested at the points of entry and exit of Luanda, under sanitation, of which 1069 were male and 237 female, and 94 presented reactive results, showing an exposure rate of 7.2 percent, but in the analysis for confirmation of the disease no infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus was found.

The covid-19 pandemic caused at least 1,869,674 deaths resulting from more than 86.3 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a balance made by the French agency AFP.

In Africa, there are 68,755 confirmed deaths and more than 2.8 million infected in 55 countries, according to the most recent statistics about the pandemic in the continent.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
