The specialization course, which will last two weeks in Cape Verde, had already been taught only in Portugal by the Institute for Public and Social Policies (IPPS) of the Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE).
And it arrives in Cape Verde, in an initiative of the Government, through the Directorate General of Social Communication (DGCS) of the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries, and the Regulatory Authority of Social Communication (ARC).
The training has formal support from the Regulatory Entity for Social Communication (ERC) of Portugal, the Portuguese Journalists Union and the Professional Portfolio Committee of Journalists of Portugal.
Aimed at media professionals, the course has 33 participants, most of them Cape Verdeans, including journalists, media directors and other professionals.
Four São Toméans and two Angolans, members of the regulatory bodies of their countries, who will also have a postgraduate degree will attend the training.
During the presentation of the course, in Praia, the president of the Regulatory Authority for the Social Communication of Cape Verde, Arminda Barros, highlighted the importance of regulation in society and its contribution to the strengthening of democracy and the democratic rule of law, considering that the course is "a great project".
According to the official, the course will improve regulation, journalistic practice and minimize the training and specialization deficit that characterizes media professionals in Cape Verde.
The training will be given by Cape Verdean specialists and ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, with the executive and scientific coordinator Professor Tânia Morais Soares, also a member of the ERC, who hopes it will be "of great interest and usefulness" to the professionals.
The official launching act was chaired by the Minister of Culture and Creative Industries of Cape Verde, Abraão Vicente, who stated that, in the absence of a framework that allows media self-regulation, it is important that journalists and agencies have that knowledge and that academic degree.
The minister also guaranteed that the Government is available to continue supporting projects of this kind, under proposals from the Association of Journalists (AJOC) and the Regulatory Entity, which finances the course, together with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Culture (UNESCO).
