Executive plans to build 55 primary and secondary schools in 18 months

The Executive is rehabilitating 15 primary and secondary schools and plans to build 55 more to meet demand, improve quality, and reduce school dropout rates.

The information was provided by the Vice President of the Republic this Monday, at the end of an inspection visit to the renovation, expansion, and equipping works at some primary and secondary schools in Luanda.

Esperança da Costa visited the primary schools 'Sagrada Esperança', in the municipality of Rangel, and '1536', in the municipality of Sambizanga, both already completed to meet the needs of the upcoming new school year.

"We will improve the standard, quality, and well-being of our students. The library is also a must. It is more modern and more attractive to our students. What we want, within the framework of the Executive's commitment and the strengthening of the institutional capacity of our schools, is to increasingly provide better quality education," she emphasized in a statement seen by VerAngola.

Meanwhile, the secondary schools 'Juventude em Luta', 'Ngola Kiluanje', '1.º de Maio', and 'Escola Comercial de Luanda', located in Largo das Escolas, also visited by the Vice President, are still making little progress due to issues related to public exam requirements, according to the president.

"We would like them to be ready by the beginning of the next academic year, 2026-2027, so that we can also, with satisfaction, present new, more modern, better-equipped schools, new courses, new options, and new training offerings, more adapted to the job market, so that students can also be more successful in the vast employment market," she emphasized.

Esperança da Costa called for everyone's participation in the maintenance of the schools, particularly in matters of education, behavior, civics, ethics, and morals.

"We wanted to launch an appeal because schools are undergoing interventions and renovations, but then their condition, when they begin operating, is very poor, especially regarding the sanitary facilities. Almost always, with great pain, we witness the deplorable state they become. So, the issue of management is also our concern, but we want everyone's participation, especially to maintain the quality of the school it deserves," he explained.

The renovation of these schools is based on the Executive's concern for the Education sector, to achieve the objectives defined in the 2023-2027 National Development Plan.

The physical construction schedule, which began in March, projects the completion of the educational infrastructure within the next 12 to 18 months.
