Government extends enrollment in education due to delays in certificates

The Government has decided to extend for further three days, until Wednesday, the enrollment in university education and for another two days, until this Tuesday, the enrollment and enrollment in general education due to the delay in issuing certificates.

According to an order from the Ministry of Education, to which Lusa had access, the period of enrollment and enrollment in primary and secondary education institutions is extended by two more days, Monday and Tuesday, as there were difficulties in issuing certificates. attesting to the academic grade of primary and secondary school pupils.

Enrollment in general education in Angola for the academic year 2020 began on 2 January and ended last Friday, with many complaints from parents and guardians about the delay in obtaining certificates.

In the document, signed by Education Minister Ana Paula Tuavanje Elias, the authorities recognize the enormous constraints in the process, thus extending the period to this day. "The enrollment period starts on the 16th and ends on the 22nd of January 2020. The other administrative services before the opening of the school year 2020 should continue their normal course", reads the document.

The Angolan Student Movement (MEA) last Wednesday called for an extension of enrollment in general education and public universities, fearing that many students would be "out of the education system" due to "slowness and bureaucracy" in issuing certificates.

According to MEA Executive Secretary Joaquim da Costa Lutambi, among the constraints "stand out the possibility of many students being out of the education system in 2020, due to age, as well as the disorders created by the Ministry of Education".

Also the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, in a note also made public, decided to extend until 15 January the enrollment to higher education in public universities, "taking into account the difficulties encountered in obtaining the certificates of secondary education".

Enrollment at Agostinho Neto University (UAN), which has 5310 openings for academic year 2020, began on 2 January and ran until Saturday, 11 January and has now been extended until Wednesday, 15 January.

The UAN exams take place from January 20th to 25th, 2020, with classes scheduled for the first week of March.
