1º de Agosto and Petro fail qualification in the African Champions League

1º de Agosto and Petro de Luanda failed this Saturday to qualify for the quarter-finals of the League of African Champion Clubs in football, after drawing in the games of the fifth and penultimate round of the group stage.

Petro de Luanda, runner-up in the national championship, drew 2-2 at the 11 de Novembro stadium, in Luanda, with Mamelodi Sandows from South Africa, in the game of the fifth round of group C of the competition, adding their third consecutive draw.

With this result, the "oil companies" add their third point, the result of two defeats and three draws, and without any chance of going to the second stage of the competition they will face the USM of Algeria on the sixth and final day, just to comply with the schedule.

In this group are already qualified for the quarter-finals Mamelodi Sandows, from South Africa, and Wydad, from Morocco.

Also Saturday, in Zambia, the 1st of August, four-time national champion, drew 1-1 against Zesco United, in challenge of the fifth round of group A.

At the start of the sixth and final round, the 1st of August adds three points, which translates into two defeats and three draws, and is unable to advance to the next stage, even if it wins the Zamalek of Egypt, already qualified, in the last round.

TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with 11 points and already qualified, is the leader of the group. The Tunisian Esperance of Tunisia is the current two-time champion of the African ‘champions’.
