Efacec workers meet this Tuesday in plenary and reject further dismissals

Efacec's workers meet this Tuesday in plenary session in Matosinhos and Maia, in Porto, to discuss the company's situation after the announcement of the sale of Isabel dos Santos' participation and reject the possibility of further redundancies.

Source of the Union of Manufacturing Industries and Energy of the North (Site Norte) told the Lusa agency that, in the plenary sessions, the workers will still be informed of the steps taken by the union structure, which has scheduled for February 18th a hearing with the Assistant Secretary of State, Labor and Vocational Training, Miguel Cabrita, and is awaiting a response to the request for a meeting with the Minister of Economy, Pedro Siza Vieira.

A meeting with Efacec's administration is already scheduled for Wednesday.

At Efacec's premises in Arroteia, in Leça do Balio, Matosinhos, the plenary session will take place between 2.30pm and 3.30pm, while at the company's premises in Maia the workers will meet between 3.50pm and 4.50pm.

Site Norte has been "apprehensive", first with the seizure of the accounts and holdings in companies of Isabel dos Santos and, more recently, with the announcement of the sale of the company's stake in Efacec, rejecting this as a pretext for further redundancies in the company, in which the daughter of the former President José Eduardo dos Santos is the largest shareholder, through Winterfell Industries.

"We hope that the Efacec group will not use this distraint to continue with the policy of withdrawal of rights, with the maintenance of disciplinary processes, collective dismissals and other pressures that it has used to lay off qualified workers," the union said in a clarification sent to the Lusa agency a few days ago.

Recalling that Efacec "celebrates 72 years of existence this year" and is "a company of reference and great importance for the Portuguese industry", the union guarantees that it will do everything, "always in conjunction with the workers, so that Efacec continues to work for many years to come".
