PGR rules out new portuguese defendants in Isabel dos Santos case

The Attorney General of the Republic (PGR), Hélder Pitta Grós, ruled out on Friday the possibility of new portuguese defendants in the cases being investigated in relation to the businesswoman Isabel dos Santos.

:

In an interview with Lusa, Hélder Pitta Grós admitted that there are other cases under investigation: a loan of 75 million dollars from the state oil company Sonangol for the acquisition of the entrance in the portuguese company Galp and the financing with public money from the public diamond company, Sodiam (200 million dollars) for the purchase of De Grisogono jewellery.

"Regarding Mrs. Isabel dos Santos and Mr. Sindika Dokolo [the husband of De Grisogono's entrepreneur and main investor] are other cases," but "regarding the poortuguese, we have no evidence that could be accused in the other cases that exist," he said.

In cooperation with Lisbon, the PGR is available to provide "a lot of information" on financial operations in order to clarify any inquiries about the entrepreneur's entry into Portuguese companies.

The financing of the entry into the oil company Galp, which received a loan of 75 million dollars, is already being investigated in Angola, but there are complaints about the acquisition processes of the Portuguese engineering company Efacec (allegedly with funds from National Electricity Company), a loan to the Eurobic bank (allegedly with support from Sodiam) and the very process of creating the telecommunications company Unitel (which includes PT) and which helped in the entry of the capital of the Portuguese operator NOS.

"We are available to provide all the data you need. There is no mechanism that can create obstacles to this", said the attorney general.

"As [the criminal investigation] moves on, other things appear. And so we have to have some strategy in managing the process," Hélder Pitta Grós said.
