Tchizé dos Santos complains about pressure to sell stakes in Angolan companies

The sister of businesswoman Isabel dos Santos and a former MPLA deputy, Tchizé dos Santos, complains that she is under pressure to sell her stakes in Angolan companies and says she is a victim of silencing attempts.

In statements sent to Agência Lusa, Welwitschia (Tchizé) dos Santos, says he received calls from someone who identified himself as belonging to Angola's secret services, "threatening that, if he doesn't shut up" they would freeze all assets in Angola.

“I have been told: they will take everything from you, they will destroy your life, they will boycott you, even Banco Prestígio [will] go bankrupt”, said the businesswoman, daughter of José Eduardo dos Santos.

The businesswoman also complained that the partners of Vida TV [TV channel] told her “that they are being threatened” and that “advertisers are being threatened for not advertising”, having been advised to pass the actions “to other people who want to destroy Vida TV, because I'm a partner”.

Tchizé speaks of taking advantage of a political moment "to try to extort people" and says "that he is not afraid to justify the origin of the money", showing himself available to explain to the authorities of the country where he is regarding his assets.

Tchizé dos Santos says that the pressures that he is being victim come from figures who say they are associated with the government and that it would be the executive “to give these guidelines”.

If not, José Eduardo dos Santos' daughter added, "warn [the President of the Republic, João Lourenço] that his name is being used by opportunistic people".

“To do business in Angola, you don't have to be a thug and a thief, not everyone who did business is a thief”, said Tchizé dos Santos, who in turn informed his partners: “They want my participation, my actions, who buy at market value, whoever feels that they prefer me not to be part of their business, make me a purchase proposal”.

The businesswoman also assured that she will not “accept threats or coercion” to dispose of a patrimony for which she says she fought and in which she has invested.

He also regretted having been a “race” for the management of TPA2, despite having legal contracts through the company West Side and stressed that he only did not file a lawsuit on this removal “for patriotism”.

"I went to make my private investment to which I was invited, I agreed, I invested my money", he said. The businesswoman also left a recommendation to her partners: “If you are not satisfied, whoever the shareholder partners are with me in projects and entities, whoever does not want me to stay will ask for a bank loan and buy that I do not offer anything to anyone or I will accept being coerced”.

Tchizé dos Santos also said that he will “fight to the last consequences” against anyone who is “giving these guidelines” to pursue it.

In January last year, Tchizé dos Santos announced that he would launch a television channel with distribution to Angola and Mozambique, the future Vida TV.
