Rains dislocates more than 3000 families in Moxico

At least 3482 families were displaced in the eastern province of Moxico between September 2019 and January 2020 as a result of rains that destroyed more than 3000 precarious homes, according to official figures.

The situation, as reported this Wednesday by the Angop agency, by the governor of Moxico, Gonçalves Muandumba, stating that the populations living in the riverside areas of the municipalities of Alto Zambezi and Cameia were the most affected.

Muandumba, who was speaking at the end of the first extraordinary session of the provincial government, also asked for the solidarity of other members of civil society with the victims, the majority of whom sought shelter in churches and in the homes of relatives.

The governor also foresaw "difficult days" for the local population, mainly due to the degradation of the access roads to the province, which condition the transport of food in the east of the country.

Bundas and Luchazes are the municipalities of Moxico affected by the drought, with the meeting recommending to the respective administrators the reception of the products sent and the evaluation of their impact on the population.
