In his speech after the New Year greetings ceremony of the diplomatic corps accredited in Angola, João Lourenço stated that “some impeding factors” that conditioned the transmissions had been overcome, so that all interested citizens will now be able to follow the political debates and the approval of laws.

The head of state spoke about Angola's "new course" to become "a truly open country" and "to free itself from harmful practices that led to a certain international isolation", highlighting democratic openness.

“Freedom of expression and the right to free information are today an unquestionable reality in our country”, he said.

João Lourenço also highlighted the “very profound change effort being undertaken by the Angolan executive”, in order to restructure the national economy, reinforce order and discipline, improve internal security and restore the role of justice in the context independence and separation of powers.

However, the head of state recalled that political, economic and social reforms have a “maturation time” so “the attempt to skip steps can sometimes lead to unexpected and less good results”.

The President also reaffirmed that the executive will continue to take measures to lighten administrative procedures and avoid bottlenecks in investment processes.

“In this year of 2020, we are confident that a significant number of foreign investors are betting on the most different sectors of the promising Angolan economy”, stressed João Lourenço, inviting investors to “believe in the seriousness and determination of the current executive”.
