Sindika Dokolo says JES started fighting corruption by removing Manuel Vicente

Isabel dos Santos' husband, Sindika Dokolo, considered that it was José Eduardo dos Santos who started the fight against corruption in the country by deciding to remove Manuel Vicente.

:

The fight against corruption did not start with the government of João Lourenço, said Sindika Dokolo. The fight against corruption started with the JES executive, he said. According to the businessman, it was JES who started the operation when he decided that Manuel Vicente would not be the party's candidate for the presidency.

"I think that President Lourenço's attitude towards his predecessor is shocking many of his fellow presidents because, after all, the fight against corruption did not start with João Lourenço," he said, adding that the fight "started at the moment, in 2015, when President dos Santos decided that Manuel Vicente would not be the party's candidate (for the presidency) due to the maladministration and corruption that took place under his administration in Sonangol," the businessman said in a statement to the VOA.

Manuel Vicente, who held the post of vice-president for some years, saw a warrant issued by Portugal for his arrest because of the Fizz case. In question was the alleged payment of gloves by the Angolan to Portuguese entities to hide illegal financial activities. The executive refused to extradite Manuel Vicente to Portugal, but said he was willing to try him in Angola. However, the former governor is protected by parliamentary immunity.
