Activist and musician MCK highlights “small gains” of the new times

The ‘rapper’ and Angolan activist MCK said this Wednesday, in Luanda, that his art is not yet exercised with complete freedom, but highlighted the “small gains” that should be accelerated instead of criticized, to intensify the process.

:

MCK, who was speaking to Lusa, on the sidelines of the "Youth in Action" colloquium promoted by the Center for Studies for Good Governance, said that two years ago it was impossible for him to appear on that panel.

"Two years ago I only tried concerts and today, since there is some freedom, I have to fight to develop it in such a way that our institutions are strong and reliable, so that when President João Loureço eventually finishes his mandate, if he does not conduct this process well, could be a victim of the vices of non-transversality or of selective justice that may eventually happen", he said.

Asked to comment on the international journalistic investigation known as ‘Luanda Leaks’, regarding non-transparent schemes on building wealth for businesswoman Isabel dos Santos, the activist considered that "so far it is proving to be a cross-sectional investigation".

According to the rapper, there are close to 60 deputies in the exercise with lawsuits, ministers with lawsuits and condemned ministers, ministers to be tried, but "obviously Isabel [dos Santos] is much bigger, because she was the front man. of the father and draws much more attention".

"We at the study center are preparing a report on asset recovery and capital repatriation, and if we can eventually do it by the first quarter of this year it will serve as a study tool, because it is a critical analysis of how if it is leading this process, it could come to serve as a study tool for other African countries, and not only, that their purse was taken by assault by the governing elites", he stressed.

Regarding the center presented this Wednesday, MCK said that it aims above all to take advantage of the new scenario, which takes place from 2017, of greater democratic openings.

"In a very recent past, relations with José Eduardo dos Santos were very repressive, confrontational or submissive, so the new scenario allows us to create forums like this, where it is possible to empower young people and above all civil society, for those which are the most relevant themes and subjects of interest to everyone", said the rapper.
