"Having our airport upgraded to international status in the year we celebrate 50 years of independence would be a great gift for the citizens of our province and all those who love and want to see tourism flourish," said the provincial governor, quoted in a statement from the Namibe government, to which VerAngola had access.

Archer Mangueira assured that "everything is being done so that by 2025 Namibe will have an international-class airport".

The statement said that the airport's classification will create "better conditions for attracting investors and the massification of tourism".

On the occasion, the provincial governor considered that this action represents an essential step to satisfy the growing demand for air services in the region, as well as contributing to improving connectivity with other regions of the world.

"We will explore the potential and geographical location of Namibe to attract investors who value access to tourist attractions, and the airport generates demand," he said in statements to the press, quoted by Angop.

Archer Mangueira also spoke about other projects in the province, highlighting the fact that the first stage of the Moçâmedes Bay rehabilitation project has been completed, which includes two elements: the container terminal and the mineral port.

According to Archer Mangueira, the integrated Moçâmedes Bay project will provide modern infrastructures that will help develop the Namibe Corridor, generating opportunities to increase exports and serve as an alternative to the ports of Namibia, writes Angop.

In a kind of forecast for next year, he also said that investment in essential infrastructures to boost the province's economic growth will continue in 2025, a year that he pointed to the delivery of the fully equipped hemodialysis unit in Ngola Kimbanda, the completion of the construction project for the new provincial hospital, among others.
