PR appoints Mara Quiosa as member of the Council of the Republic: “She will bring a lot of what she learned from the communities”

MPLA vice-president, Mara Quiosa, took office as a member of the Council of the Republic. During the event, which took place this Monday in the main hall of the Presidential Palace, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, pointed out the fact that Mara Quiosa had already performed “important functions in the State apparatus”, having spent time in three provinces in the guise of governor, believing that by joining the Council of the Republic “she will bring to the President of the Republic a lot of what he learned from the communities”.

"We confer office today on someone who has already performed important functions in the State apparatus, having worked, in particular, in three provinces, as governor, where she exercised her responsibilities, always working very closely with the communities: urban communities, rural communities", indicated the head of state.

At the time, João Lourenço believes that Mara Quiosa's integration into this body will allow the MPLA vice-president to bring him a little "of what she learned from the communities".

"And, for this reason, I believe that, by joining the Council of the Republic from today onwards, she will bring to the President of the Republic a bit of what he learned from the communities, he will bring the desires, aspirations and advice on how as the President of the Republic must meet the same desires and aspirations", he said.

Finally, the President of the Republic welcomed her and wished her success: "Therefore, I just have to wish you success in your work. You are very welcome to this community of advisors to the President of the Republic. I believe that, with the your nomination, I, as advised, will win a lot and I believe that, equally, the country will win".

According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, to which VerAngola had access, the head of State conferred on Mara Quiosa as a member of the Council of the Republic, thus becoming "part of the list of advisors to the Head of State due to his inherent functions, taking into account the his election to the position of vice-president of the MPLA".

It is worth remembering that, last Friday, Mara Quiosa was appointed by the President of the Republic to this position. This appointment came just days after the former governor of Cuanza Sul was elected vice-president of the ruling party, replacing Luísa Damião in the position.
