South African President awards João Lourenço with South Africa's highest distinction

The President of the Republic received the highest distinction in South Africa, being awarded the ‘Order of South Africa’. The decoration took place this Thursday, as part of João Lourenço's state visit to that country, having received the order's necklace from the hands of his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa.

The head of state considered the act as a highlight of his workday in South Africa, having stated that the decoration is not awarded to him "as a person, as a singular entity", but to the people of Angola who have always known how to preserve strong bonds of friendship and solidarity with the people of South Africa.

Thus, quoted by Angop, he expressed gratitude, on behalf of the Angolan people, for the 'South African Order', which signals the mutual interest of the two peoples and countries, in preserving the historical ties, established during the time of combat against the regime of apartheid.

"Already back then, we fought for the common good, we fought for the freedom of our people, we fought for social progress, the economic and social development of our countries", said João Lourenço.

According to Angop, the aforementioned order concerns the highest distinction and greatest honor that the South African country confers on a relevant and friendly head of state.

It is recalled that João Lourenço traveled to South Africa on Wednesday, to carry out a state visit, at the invitation of his South African counterpart.
