Fries ‘made in Angola’ take a step towards internationalization and reach Europe through Portugal

The ‘Palanca’ brand of French fries will expand across borders and reach the European market through Portugal. Introduced last week to the Portuguese market, the brand does not want to stop here and intends to take further steps towards internationalization, with the markets of Mozambique, Congo and Dubai in its sights.

With the presentation of these potatoes – produced in Malanje by Tegma-Su –, several commercial establishments in Portugal were invited by the company, and next month it is expected that a "meeting with four of the largest Portuguese servers" will be held to outline the "distribution strategy" of this product in Portuguese lands.

"A meeting is planned for the month of January with four of the largest Portuguese servers, to outline the strategy for distributing potatoes in Portugal, including Pinco Doce and Continente", informed the chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the company, António Duarte, speaking to Expansão.

In addition to Portugal, the company is also targeting the markets of Mozambique, Congo and Dubai.

According to the person in charge, quoted by Expansão, the brand has also already been presented in Mozambique, and is complying with the bureaucracies to start supplying "eight containers a month from January to Mozambique".

With regard to Congo, the presentation of the brand is scheduled for January next year and for February in Dubai, he said.

"We are complying with the bureaucratic processes to start supplying eight containers a month from January to Mozambique. And in January 2023 we will present our brand in Congo and in February in Dubai", he said, quoted by Expansão.

It should be noted that the company started the production of potatoes in 2020, translating, according to the PCA, into a risky challenge due to the appearance of covid-19. However, the project succeeded and the brand is currently sold in 14 provinces in the country.

In addition to its expansion plan, the company made an investment of eight million dollars for the implementation of a new line for the manufacture of pre-frozen potatoes, whose inauguration is scheduled for February 10, 2023 and where it is expected that four tons of potatoes per shift, writes Expansão.

With a high production capacity, the factory, according to António Duarte, is currently producing between five and six thousand boxes a month (equivalent to 40 tons).

According to Expansão, the official also spoke about the company's turnover – which employs 70 people – noting that this year it has already invoiced around 450 million kwanzas, corresponding to an increase of around 62 percent compared to the 2021 turnover.
