Angola registered 58,765 different crimes this year and arrested 40,211 people

Until November this year, Angola registered 58,765 crimes of various types, 36,818 of which were cleared up and led to the arrest of 40,211 people, disclosed the interior minister.

The official stressed that 1178 fewer crimes were registered compared to the same period in 2021, with emphasis on voluntary homicides, sexual assaults, offenses to physical integrity, kidnappings, robberies and thefts.

Eugénio Laborinho advanced, on Tuesday, the data in the closing speech, this Wednesday distributed to the press, of the extended consultative council of the Ministry of the Interior, which met for two days in Luanda.

The minister exhorted the bodies that make up the ministerial department to redouble operational actions and intensify measures to prevent and combat organized crime, illegal carrying and use of firearms, offenses to physical integrity, robberies, scams, damage and theft of goods crimes, illegal immigration, fuel and goods smuggling, as well as other cross-border crimes, for a peaceful festive season.

To the Civil Protection and Fire Service, Eugénio Laborinho called for the reinforcement of preventive measures and awareness among the population, to avoid drowning and fires, which are likely to occur at this stage of the year, as well as to guarantee speed and efficiency in helping victims of road accidents and disasters, in case of occurrence.

"For its part, the Penitentiary Service must redouble security measures in Penitentiary Establishments and create conditions for inmates to have a good festive season, despite being far from their families", determined the minister.

The holder of the Interior portfolio underlined the need to improve the level of instruction of the staff at different levels.

"We need to improve the level of instruction of the staff at different levels, not only from a tactical and operational point of view, but also from an ethical and civic point of view, in order to adopt dignified and exemplary conduct in the exercise of their functions ", stressed the minister.

Eugénio Laborinho reiterated the appeal to citizens to respect and collaborate with the police authorities, in denouncing "delinquents and offenders" and to refrain from "committing acts of incivility and conduct that result in crimes".

"Because excesses and emotions can lead to misfortune within the family, transforming a moment of joy into sadness. In this festive season, and beyond, we intend to promote greater dialogue between the bodies of the Ministry of the Interior and the population, especially the youth, churches, traditional authorities and other sectors of civil society, intensifying actions leading to the recovery of moral and civic values, including respect for laws and the safeguarding of public goods", he stressed.
