PGR: computer system to control detainees in pre-trial detention starts within three months

The Attorney General of the Republic (PGR), Hélder Pitta Grós, informed that the computer system for controlling detainees in pre-trial detention is already in the testing phase and that it will start up within three months.

Cited by Jornal de Angola, Pitta Grós underlined that with its start-up, the authorities will be able to access in real time the situation of citizens detained in preventive detention.

To this end, the Attorney General of the Republic said, through a mobile phone they will have access to the circumstances of the prisoners, who is and who has been detained, how the procedural instruction is located, among other processes, writes Jornal de Angola.

The official, who was speaking to the press after the swearing in of 30 PGR sub-attorneys and the promotion of 18 members to the fifth term of the Superior Council for the Magistracy of the Public Ministry, also mentioned the fight against corruption in the country.

Pitta Grós, quoted by Jornal de Angola, disagreed with the statement that "there is inertia" on the part of the PGR in the fight against corruption, taking into account the high rates of criminal cases sent to the courts and added that the PGR, in the last five years, it was able to multiply by five the work that was not carried out before, which shows that there is no inertia on the part of the PGR in this matter.

He also considered that although working conditions are not yet suitable for judges, a huge effort has been and continues to be made to ensure that this type of process is handled quickly.

He also admitted that the PGR could do more, but there are other social, professional issues and precise means that must be resolved to raise the motivation of magistrates and in the end to reach even better results than the previous ones, writes Jornal de Angola.
