Akinwumi Adesina was speaking in Luanda where he was received by the Minister of Finance, Vera Daves de Sousa, on the sidelines of the 10th Summit of Heads of State and Government of Africa, Caribbean and Pacific (OEACP).
The official highlighted the importance of Angola for the ADB, thanking the contribution of 13 million dollars for the group's concessional window (African development fund), as well as the 6 million dollars made available to support the development of low-income countries, adding that the African country has a significant portfolio of projects, worth 1.1 billion dollars.
At the meeting with the minister, he praised the measures taken to recover the economy in the post-covid-19 period, which will allow for economic growth of 2.9 percent, also applauding the efforts to control the debt, which "was very high", due to fiscal responsibility and prudence.
Adesina conveyed to Vera Daves different forms of AfDB support to the Angolan Government, underlining that around 250 million dollars are available annually for the private sector.
"We can do much more, because this allows development to continue without taking on more public debt", said the head of the ADB, notably pointing to support for the development of agro-industry.
The ADB president also addressed support to establish an investment bank for young Angolan entrepreneurs, as well as "affirmative financial action for women".
Vera Daves, for her part, highlighted Angola's commitment to continue being a partner of the ADB, of which she is also a shareholder.
"We reinforced that commitment and we hope to receive the support of the bank in what is our vision, especially in the financing of infrastructures and economic diversification", said the minister, adding that several paths were presented that go through direct financial support to the private sector , which "pleased a lot".
