The access is difficult, but it is worth the effort to get there. Located about a 30 minute drive north of Luanda, Ship Graveyard is the largest ship cemetery in the world.
The setting resembles the post-apocalyptic films, with a beach littered with rusty ship carcasses. The Ship Graveyard is located on Santiago beach and there are many stories about this place. There are those who believe that the boats were left in the area for being rubbish and other culprits the sea for the beaching of the boats.
Several rusty ships are available here, but there are a few that are highlighted. This is the case of the oil tanker Karl Marx, considered the main merchant navy ship in the country.
You should not visit the place alone or after dark and should bring food and drinks. It is still recommended that you go in a traction vehicle due to the sandy terrain.
