Road accidents caused 38 deaths and 293 injuries in the last week

Angola recorded 38 deaths and 293 injuries as a result of 270 road accidents in the last week, reported the National Police.

According to the report on the public safety situation, between the 10th and 16th of this month, the numbers of road accidents point to a decrease in deaths (-12), but an increase both in injuries (+28) and in accidents (+19), highlighting the provinces of Luanda, with 69 claims (+10), Benguela, with 23 (-4) and Huíla, with 23 (+6).

With regard to traffic inspection, 333 motor vehicles, 1,129 motorcycles, 938 driving licenses, 1,270 entries, 893 booklets and 634 property registration titles were seized, with 3,283 fines being applied, valued at 12.7 million kwanzas .

During the period in question, the police detained 948 citizens (+75) suspects and seized 44 (+11) firearms of various calibers, of which 21 were in Luanda and five in Cuanza Norte.
The report points out that among the crimes, thefts (123), thefts (151) and sexual assaults (40) stand out.

"It is important to mention that among the main reasons for committing the various crimes, immediacy, misunderstandings, quarrels or fights, beliefs about fetishism and issues of passion stand out", states the report.

In Luanda, the police highlighted in their report the arrest of a 31-year-old national, alleged perpetrator of the crime of death threat using a model RDG5 smoke grenade, against a 41-year-old woman.

"The fact took place in the Marconi neighborhood, on the public road, when both were living together. Minutes later they fell out, and the accused resorted to that means to consummate the crime", stresses the Luanda provincial command of the National Police, in its balance sheet .

The police also seized 19,955 liters of fuel and detained, within the scope of immigration control, with 364 registered border offenses (-54), 1276 citizens (-127), mostly from the Democratic Republic of Congo (1262), who were accompanied of 188 children.
