Angola Telecom employees suspend strike after administration promises

Officials at the Angolan public telecommunications company, Angola Telecom, decided to suspend the strike called for Monday, after a promise by the administration to resolve the claims as of January 2022, announced the company's union commission.

:

The information was transmitted by the secretary general of the Union of Postal, Telecommunications and Related Workers of Luanda, Lourenço Afonso, stating that the company's administration has pledged to "respond satisfactorily" to the concerns.

Updating and regular payment of salaries, better working conditions, medical and drug assistance and the payment of retirement compensations pontificate the workers' complaints, who suspended the strike decreed for Monday, December 27th.

"As a result of a meeting we had yesterday (Thursday) with the Board of Directors, having reached some essential points, so we will suspend it until the next general assembly of workers where the strike was declared," he said in Friday Lourenço Afonso à Lusa.

According to the union leader, the consensual points are related to the 50% salary update for a significant segment of workers who earn "very low wages", between 60,000 kwanzas and 70,000 kwanzas.

And, later, from May 2022, "it will already be possible to work on a new table, with job qualifiers, where there will be career progression, and from then on a new salary table will be applied, where salaries will be increased for all of transversal way", he explained.

Employees of the Angolan state-owned telecommunications and multimedia company will once again benefit from medical and drug assistance services, "as of January 2022", and the employer also guarantees that they "already equate" retirement compensation.

The implementation of a housing plan, development of human resources and the updating of contracts for an indefinite period, for employees who have had a fixed-term contract for more than five years, are also included in the agreements signed between the parties.

"And it was these consensuses that we are going to present to the General Assembly, which deliberated the strike on December 27th and should also cancel it", concluded the union leader, hoping for the fulfillment of the employer's promises.
