According to a statement from Unitel, to which VerAngola had access, Angolan students were highlighted at the event, winning a place among the nine best groups in the 'Tech4Good' competition, which was part of the Huawei program.
"The five students who represented Angola in the Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa LEAP Digital Talent Study stood out by achieving a position among the nine best groups in the Tech4Good competition, an integral part of the program", the note reads.
A total of 125 young people from 17 countries participated in the event, which challenged them to "present innovative technological solutions".
In this challenge, the Angolans ended up surprising with the presentation of a virtual reality proposal aimed at training university students.
"The Angolan group surprised the judges with its virtual reality proposal, designed for the training of university students. The solution aims to bridge the gap in practical experience and direct contact with the job market, thus increasing the employability possibilities for graduates", says the statement.
The five students, says Unitel's note, were chosen from the 'Seeds For the Future' program, carried out in partnership by the Chinese technology company Huawei and Unitel.
According to Isaac Figueira, a student at Óscar Ribas University, who was hired by Huawei Angola after excelling in training held in June, it was a "transformative journey" for the participants: "When we reached the end of the course, it is clear that this trip was transformative for all participants."
"We have learned to harness the power of technology through Mixed Reality, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and sustainable technology, to drive positive changes and fill gaps in education, health and economic development," he added, quoted by Jornal de Angola.
Almost half of the training students (around 40 percent) were women, who benefited from scholarships for a trip to China, with Huawei offering work opportunities to some of the best students in the program.
A representative of the company said that "Huawei firmly believes that actions speak louder than words", having highlighted the commitment to continuously help Angolan society, promoting the growth of talents in ICT, with the aim of training more than 15 thousand professionals in the sector by 2027, writes Jornal de Angola.
