Speaking after the meeting with the head of state, the official said that Angola accepted the invitation to host the BAL in 2026.

According to Clare Akamanzi, the "invitation was accepted by Angola and was due to the recognition of its potential in the sport and for being the current champion of the competition", says a statement from CIPRA, to which VerAngola had access.

The PCA of NBA Africa also made it known that, for the success of the BAL in 2026, the organization will work with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to find the date to hold the competition, as well as "address all matters inherent to the championship".

As part of the cooperation with Angola, the official said that the NBA proposed to João Lourenço "a program to develop the skills and abilities of Angolan players and participate in the construction of some fields for practicing the sport".

According to the Secretary of State for Sports, Paulo Madeira, cited by Angop, holding the competition in Angola will result in advantages both for improving sports infrastructure and for promoting tourism.

It is worth remembering that Petro de Luanda currently holds the title of BAL champion.

As an "international men's basketball competition" between African clubs, "launched in 2021 and co-organized by the National Basketball Association of the United States and the International Basketball Federation", the BAL has already visited four countries on the continent, namely Egypt, South Africa, Senegal and Rwanda.
