The Fuel Report for the third quarter of 2024 indicates that, during this period, 1.1 million metric tons were purchased for commercialization, of which around 58 percent diesel, 29 percent gasoline, 6 percent fuel ordoil ( fuel used in heavy vehicles), 5 percent Jet A1 (aircraft fuel), 1 percent asphalt bitumen and 1 percent illuminating oil.
The document states that 29 percent of the liquid fuels came from the Luanda Refinery, 1 percent from Cabgoc – Topping in Cabinda and 70 percent from imports.
The national fuel market “remains heavily dependent on imports”, says the IRDP, highlighting that in relation to the previous quarter there was “a trend increase in the import weight of 6.17 percentage points and a reduction of 1.17 percentage points, in compared to the same period of the previous year”.
At the end of the 3rd quarter of 2024, says the regulator, the country had an onshore storage capacity of 675,968 cubic meters, and 1,172 filling stations, of which 896 were operational, unchanged from the 2nd quarter.
The data shows that in terms of market share in sales volume, Sonangol Distribuição e Comercialização maintains the leadership with 62.2 percent, followed by Pumangol with 21.5 percent, Sonangalp with 8.2 percent, Total Energies Marketing Angola with 7.2 percent, Etu Energias with 0.4 percent and Soida (Operator of imported and national asphalt bitumen) equally with 0.4 percent.
With regard to liquefied gas, in the period in question, 122,243 metric tons of cooking gas were made available, of which 68 percent came from the Angola LNG Factory, 22 percent from Sanha, 7 percent from the Luanda Refinery and 3 percent from cent of Cabinda Topping.
“In relation to the previous quarter, there was a reduction of approximately 11 percent in the acquisition of LPG [liquefied petroleum gas] for the domestic market”, highlights the Institute in the report.
According to the analysis, Angola continues to have the lowest retail price for gasoline in the Southern African region, corresponding to 300.00 kwanzas per liter, the same for diesel, at a price of 200.00 kwanzas per liter.
The quarterly average sales prices of gasoline and diesel charged at gas stations at regional level (SADC), making a comparison with the national currency (kwanza), were 1,088.24 kwanzas per liter and 1,065.63 kwanzas per liter , respectively, the document reads.
