Akwá points out administrative problems and disrespect towards athletes to Angola

The Angolan football team's biggest problems are administrative and include disrespect for athletes, said former captain of the Angolan football team Fabrice Maieco 'Akwá', former Benfica player.

"The lack of ambition has not been on the part of the players, because even coach Pedro Gonçalves managed to mobilize a cream of the crop that can rival any competitor in the CAN. The obstacle really lies in the poor planning of objectives. The problems are administrative and the lack of respect for athletes" he said.

At the African Cup of Nations (CAN) in January 2024, Akwá aims to see the Angolan team, under the command of Portuguese coach Pedro Gonçalves, improve on the quarter-finals reached in 2008, in Ghana, and 2010, in Angola, a feat that he believes will be possible if the federation (FAF) changes its paradigm.

The Portuguese coach's men are in Group D, with Algeria, the winning country in 2019, Burkina Faso and Mauritania, and will participate for the ninth time in the biggest celebration of African football at national team level.
