Women promise to march naked for the release of Angolan activists

The wives of the Angolan activists convicted in September for disobedience and resistance complained about the lack of support and promised to march naked in Luanda in protest against the “unjust prison”, asking President João Lourenço to intervene.

This position was presented this Thursday at a press conference, called by women activists, where the partners of young people detained for more than two months participated, for having tried to participate in a demonstration in Luanda, in solidarity with the motorcycle taxi drivers.

The wives of Gilson Moreira da Silva "Tanaice Neutro", Adolfo Campos, Hermenegildo André "Gildo das Ruas" and Abraão Pensador, the four arrested activists, lamented the conditions in which they find themselves, "without food and medical assistance", referring to treatment himself from an "unjust" prison.

Yared Bumba, who read the press release, said that the activists were sentenced without the opportunity to review their sentences, adding that they are detained in distant establishments without the right to visits from family members and other activists.

According to Yared Bunda, the lawyers filed an appeal, which was rejected by the judge in the case, noting that a new appeal "has been shelved for almost a month".

"We, women activists, together with the families of our brothers, will now give the Angolan Government five days to comment, as quickly as possible, if it does not want to see naked women on [Largo] 1.º de Maio next week ", he promised.

Rosa Mendes, wife of Adolfo Campos, criticized the "unfair condemnation" of activists, who fight for human rights in defense of the Angolan people, saying that children are deprived of their parents, who are the providers of their families.

"We are already here ready to say to the President (of the Republic), João Lourenço: you are a father, you have daughters with their husbands, but I don't, I sleep and wake up alone because my husband is sleeping on the floor, with highly regarded criminals. dangerous", he lamented.

She also promised that the activist women's group will sue the judge who rejected and "shelved" the appeal and want to protest in front of the Ministries of the Interior and Justice and Human Rights in favor of the activists' release.

"Next, we will go with our families to these ministries and, right after that, we will go naked, because that's what you want," she said.

Pregnant, the wife of "Tanaice Neutro" also gave her face and voice at the press conference, reiterating that the activists "were unfairly arrested by the Angolan Government" and promised to fight in the streets for their release.

"We can't visit our husbands because the Angolan Government thinks it owns the country. We came here to denounce everything that is happening to our husbands and it doesn't matter if we are going to die, but we are going out to ask them to release our husbands because we are tired of this Government", said Teresa Cawanga.

Teresa also showed, on the occasion, photos about Tanaice Neutro's health status, stating that he is prevented from having the surgery he needs because he is deprived of his freedom.

A message to President João Lourenço was also left by Lemba Paulo, wife of activist Abraão Pensador, asking the head of state to comment within five days, reiterating that if this does not happen they will take to the streets naked in protest.

"President of the Republic, a message for you, you have five days to speak out, if you don't, I guarantee you that you will see what you didn't want to see, we will not destroy any public property, but I guarantee that our naked body will be yours ( President of the Republic) will see", he assured.

The press conference took place in the well-known "Biblioteca Despadronizada", in the municipality of Viana, in Luanda, an improvised reading space under a pedestrian crossing under the responsibility of activists.
