"Electrification will reach more than one million people in 60 communes, in the provinces of Malanje, Bié, Moxico, Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul", informs the Ministry of Energy and Water, in a statement to which VerAngola had access.
The consignment ceremony and laying of the first stone, according to the note, was presided over by the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, "flanked by the provincial governor, Deolinda Vilarinho, by the ambassadors of the Republic of Portugal, Francisco Alegre, and the Federal Republic from Germany, Stefan Traumann, and senior officials from the Energy sector, DNEER, PRODEL, ENDE".
According to the guardianship, the report was signed by senior managers of the companies, "on behalf of the Angolan Government, PRODEL to monitor and supervise the owner of the work and as the main contractor of the work, the Portuguese Group MCA".
On the occasion, the minister said it was "a notable milestone in the development of the country's electrification", having highlighted the priority of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, "who defined goals in his agenda so that more Angolan families, in the most far from this country, have cleaner, cheaper energy, expected to reach around 70 percent by 2027 in the National Energy Matrix in renewable energy and thus, improve the quality of life of all Angolans still without energy from the national public grid".
Quoted in the note, João Baptista Borges also left an appeal to the local population to preserve public assets and denounce acts of vandalism.
According to the statement, in Lunda Norte, 74,368 families in 15 communes will benefit from the project. In the town of Cafunfo, 29,150 home connections will be made using the prepaid system.
"A photovoltaic park will be built with 72 thousand panels, which will have the capacity to produce 41.4 megawatts, plus 111.45 MW stored in batteries, for nighttime production", reads the note, which adds that the Cafunfo photovoltaic park is evaluated worth more than one billion euros and its construction will last three years.
"The project has strategic partners, whose financing and/or financial support of 1.2 billion euros is provided by the German company Euler Hermes", informs the guardianship.
According to the statement, the project is part of the Angola 2025 Plan strategy, "defined by the Government, which aims to bring clean electrical energy to urban and rural areas, through the expansion of the national electrical grid and the construction of photovoltaic parks, transforming Angola in a prosperous, modern country with a growing insertion in the global and regional economy".
