"The executive is working to respond to the concerns raised, some of which have already been resolved, others are in the process of being resolved, and so I would appeal to my colleagues for some consideration, a vote of confidence, because we are working to resolve the their claims," said the minister.

Luísa Grilo, who was speaking in Zaire province, north of Angola, where she presided over the act of the National Educator's Day, said that the body she directs has not yet received written information regarding the national teachers' strike.

"We actually listened, but we continued to talk with our union partners, even on Friday we met with the union to find mechanisms for permanent dialogue, on the one hand, and on the other hand, find solutions that serve both parties, but we said that we are open to dialogue", pointed out the official.

The National Union of Angolan Teachers (Sinprof) reaffirmed today the strike interpolated from Wednesday, a stoppage, which according to its general secretary, Admar Jinguma, extends until 30 November.

"The strike scheduled for tomorrow in the education sector will unfortunately take place, because our objective was never to strike, the objective is to solve the many problems that the sector is experiencing", said the union leader.

Salary increase, improvement of working conditions, payment of subsidies and the regulation of mono-teaching are among the claims of Angolan teachers, whose claim book has been negotiated for three years.

"Few questions were answered and even those answered were not fully answered, in such a way that the annoyed professors signaled for us to start this pressure measure", he argued.

Admar Jinguma added: "We are always open to dialogue and whenever we are called we do not present any formalism, now it is important to say that these talks at the end of the day have had no effect", he shot.

The second phase of the Angolan teachers' strike is scheduled between December 6th and 16th and the third between January 3rd and 31st, 2023, as decided by the VI Ordinary Meeting of the Consultative Council of Sinprof, held last October.
