DJ Search contest finalists announced

The search for the next female DJ is on the rise, with the announcement of the finalists for the Smirnoff DJ Search, which features live performances, and which now awaits public voting to choose the finalist.

DJ Avassaladora, DJ Ery Mangueira, DJ Lena Lee, DJ Lúcia Afrodite de Luanda; DJ Cleo from Huambo, and DJ Edna from Lobito, are the finalists battling for first place.

After this public vote, the two most voted finalists will perform at the Food Market, on December 3rd, where the big winner will be announced.

The Angolan finalists overcame several challenges to become DJs, in a profession still seen as mostly male. But if all the finalists have one ambition in mind, it is to become nationally and internationally known DJs, and to be a role model for other women who dream of this or another career. "We are looking for imagination, originality, technique, stage presence, energy and mixing ability – and we believe we have a very strong group of young female DJs, who will not only help promote gender equality, but also a new approach to electronic music. DJ Leo Cris and DJ Elly Chuva make up the jury for Smirnoff DJ Search, Smirnoff's biggest project ever in Angola, to empower women to become international voices in a competitive and male-dominated industry. “Being a female DJ is not an easy path, and it takes a lot of staying power. That's why competition is so important, as it gives female DJs a huge boost in their career. and to take advantage of this great opportunity!" says DJ Elly Chuva.

The winner will receive exclusive mentoring from DJ Elly Chuva, and equipment valued at more than 2,300,000 kwanzas, including a contract to perform at Smirnoff activations and events.
