Despite the adverse environment caused by the drought in the last agricultural year, Adriano da Silva, owner of the farm, explains that the amount of tomato belongs to a production that started six months ago, in an area of 65 hectares and using an irrigation system .
According to the producer, the municipality of Porto Amboim is advantageous for its very fertile soils and a climate that favors agricultural production. Thus, Fazenda Adriano Silva has plans to increase tomato production, the main focus of its crops.
"We have a harvest that assures us greater strength in this year of production, and around 90 percent of the harvest is sold in Luanda," said the producer, in statements to Angop.
Adriano da Silva also considered important to make investments in the industrial sector, in order to transform surpluses. "We cannot sell and this caused us to lose 20 tonnes of tomatoes in the months of June and July", he lamented, acknowledging the saturation of the national market.
The farm's soil is also fertile with respect to other crops such as watermelon – harvested 10 tonnes every three days – and pepper, from which one tonnes a day is harvested.
Adriano da Silva Farm occupies an area of 100 hectares of arable land, employing more than a hundred workers.
Farm harvests 45 tons of tomato per day but there is no way to sell so much production
It is on the Adriano Silva Farm, located in the municipality of Porto Amboim (Cuanza Sul), that the land offers the best it has to offer. This year, tomato production reached an impressive 45 tons per day, however, the national market is saturated and production cannot be sold.
