MPLA Political Bureau approves João Lourenço's candidacy for the party's presidency

The political bureau of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), this Thursday approved the candidacy of João Lourenço for president of the party, which should be submitted to the approval of the Central Committee at a meeting scheduled for next Monday.

:

João Lourenço, current President of Angola and MPLA, is the only candidate for the leadership of the ruling party, within the scope of the VIII Ordinary Congress to be held between 9 and 11 December, in Luanda.

According to the final communiqué of the sixth ordinary meeting of the MPLA political bureau, held this Thursday in Luanda, under the presidency of João Lourenço, the members of this body were informed about the state of preparation for the central act of the December conclave.

For the MPLA, the December congress constitutes a "political platform to reinforce the union and cohesion of the militants, sympathizers and friends of the party around the leadership of João Lourenço, with a view to overcoming the electoral political challenges".

Pre-candidate for the MPLA leadership António Venâncio, who had his intention to run for the party's congress rejected for failure to meet the deadline, said on Tuesday that he would appeal to the party's Central Committee.

According to Venâncio, the candidacy subcommittee is not the last instance, there are still others to which he can turn, namely the electoral commission, the Central Committee, the Audit and Disciplinary Commission, the secretariat of the Political Bureau, and even the congress, where the new leader will be elected.

António Venâncio's pre-candidacy and the concerns he presents were not discussed at this Tuesday's meeting.

The MPLA's political bureau also appreciated the opinion on the proposal for the General State Budget (OGE) for 2022, which "elected support for the economy, the defense of household income and consumption, to be materialized through the adoption of tax measures" .

The party also highlighted the "promotion of employment and the increase of personnel in the public administration, considering equally the progressions, promotions and updates as its main foundations".

The Political Bureau "welcomed the fact that the 2022 State Budget will be implemented within the framework of the resumption of economic growth and the necessary fiscal consolidation as a condition for improving the quality of life of Angolans".

The 2022 State Budget proposal was presented at this meeting by Vera Daves de Sousa, Minister of Finance and member of the MPLA's political bureau.

The political bureau also denounced, in this communiqué, the "existence of numerous campaigns of lies and defamation, aimed at harming the MPLA's image, the honor and good name of its leaders, conveyed by different media, with more incidence on the networks social".
