The death of Ismael Mateus, also a writer, columnist and analyst of political and social issues, is causing pain and consternation in different segments of society, in light of public reactions in the media and on social networks.
According to a statement from the police in Luanda, the journalist died in the early hours of this Tuesday, when the vehicle he was driving crashed into a fixed obstacle, on Avenida 21 de Janeiro, presumably due to excessive speed, resulting in his immediate death on the spot. location.
"Taking into account the severity of the impact and the degree of destruction of the vehicle, we suspect excessive speed, but the investigation is ongoing," said the spokesperson for the National Civil Protection and Fire Service of Angola, Wilson Baptista.
Speaking to the press, the former general secretary of the Union of Angolan Journalists (SJA), Teixeira Cândido, lamented the death of Ismael Mateus, who was a co-founder of the SJA, saying that the class "is on its knees".
"What we are today we owe to Ismael, it was Ismael who mobilized us for the union with exceptional work and all these years we have maintained a more than professional relationship, a relationship of comradeship, we are on our knees", he lamented.
Luis Caetano, president of the Angolan Sports Press Association, considered the news of Ismael Mateus' death "devastating", remembering that he was an actor "very active in terms of the country's social life".
"He is a master who still has a lot to give", highlighted the journalist from Televisão Pública de Angola.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a note of condolence sent to Lusa, expressed deep pain and consternation at the death of journalist Ismael Mateus, highlighting his "remarkable contribution" throughout his professional life.
