Former deputy Quintino Moreira has died

Politician and former deputy Quintino Moreira, president of the extinct National Patriotic Alliance (APN) party, died this Tuesday, in Luanda, a victim of illness, at the age of 56, the national press reported.

The information was confirmed this Tuesday to Rádio Nacional de Angola by the vice-president of the APN, Noé Mateus, who noted that Quintino Moreira died in one of the hospital units in the capital.

Quintino Moreira, who was a deputy in the National Assembly and member of the Council of the Republic in the 2008-2012 legislature, led the APN in the general elections of August 2022, where he obtained 0.48 percent of the valid votes cast, a situation that led to the political group's extinction.

A graduate in Law with a focus on political law, Quintino Moreira, who already had a new political project in the works for the 2027 general elections, was the founder and president of the Movement for Democracy party and the New Democracy – Electoral Union party coalition, founded in 2006.

In a note of condolence, the parliament expressed "deep pain and dismay" over the death of Quintino Moreira and stated that the former deputy was a "prominent figure" on the national political scene.

His death represents a loss for the national political scene, the note states.
