Angola and Mozambique draw in a friendly game played in the Algarve

The Angola and Mozambique football teams drew 1-1 this Friday, in a private game that took place at the Albufeira Municipal Stadium, with the two goals of the match being scored in the second half.

The Mozambican team, coached by Chiquinho Conde, took the lead in the 70th minute, with Geny Catamo, a Sporting footballer, coming in from the right and assisting Faisal Bangal's deflection.

The Angolans, coached by the Portuguese Pedro Gonçalves, responded and managed to equalize in the 84th minute, through Gelson Dala, who in Portugal played for Sporting and Rio Ave, with a beautiful shot from inside the area.

The game serves as preparation for the start of the African qualifying phase for the 2026 World Cup, with the first games scheduled for November, as well as for the African Football Cup of Nations (CAN).

The 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations will take place in Côte d'Ivoire, between January 13th and February 11th, 2024.

Mozambique is in Group B and will face Cape Verde, Egypt, coached by Portuguese Rui Vitória, and Ghana, while Angola is in Group D, with Algeria, Mauritania and Burkina Faso.
