Justice continues “working” on the cases of Isabel dos Santos and Manuel Vicente, says PGR

The Attorney General of the Republic guaranteed this Thursday that criminal cases involving Angolan personalities are not at a standstill and that the Angolan justice system keeps its doors open to dialogue.

Helder Pitta Grós was speaking to the press on the sidelines of a workshop on asset confiscation for magistrates of Angola's higher courts, in Luanda.

Asked about the stage at which the processes relating to the daughter of the former Angolan president Isabel dos Santos and the former vice-president, Manuel Vicente, both in the sights of the Angolan justice system for alleged corruption, Pitta Grós did not comment on specific cases, which "are subject to judicial secrecy", but assured that the authorities are "working".

"There are processes that are more complex than others, there are processes that require more international cooperation than others, others need more institutional cooperation, each process has its 'timing'", he said, adding that "human and material resources are also not enough for everything".

He also guaranteed that the processes are not closed, without revealing whether those involved are cooperating, because "each case is different".

"When there is an arrest, in principle there is already an imposition, it doesn't matter if there is collaboration or not. There are some who, as they say in the slang, get ahead and there are others who don't," stated Pitta Grós, justifying that the International cooperation mechanisms are also slow.

"It doesn't take a day or two, everything has its own rules and we have to observe the legislation of each of these States. We have kept the door open for the dialogue to continue and I believe that sooner or later we will be in a position to give more information about this", said the same person in charge.

Isabel dos Santos, who is subject to a red notice issued by Interpol at the request of Angola, has lived outside her country for several years, as has Manuel Vicente, both of whom are frequently seen in Dubai.
